Everything you need to know about the upcoming Fortnite Trio tournament

Epic Games dropped the news that a Fortnite Trios tournament will be taking place from July 13 to 14, and we have all the available information ready for you.

Every year Epic Games give their employees a two-week vacation in the summer in order to allow them to relax and recuperate.

In a blog post on June 20, they announced that the company-wide vacation will be between June 24 and July 8. During this time, there are no competitive tournaments almost forcing pros to take their own break.

In order to help alleviate the downtime for competitive players, Epic teased a prized Trio tournament on July 13 and July 14.

Several top pros have already committed to teaming up, and there are some powerful trio groups already assembled.

Here is everything you need to know about the Fortnite Trios tournament.

Format

Epic is still currently on vacation, so there has not been an update on the Trio tournament’s format, prize pool, or time.

Can Fortnite’s servers handle Trio competitive play?

There have been a handful of Epic-run Fortnite tournaments in 2019, especially with ten weeks of open qualifiers for the Fortnite World Cup.

If Epic was to follow the same format at the Online Opens, here is how it would break down:

  • Victory Royale: 10 Points
  • 2nd – 5th: 7 Points
  • 6th – 10th: 5 Points
  • 11th – 15th: 3 Points
  • Elimination: 1 Point

Schedule

July 13 is a Saturday and July 14 is a Sunday, so it seems that Epic will be using the same scheduling as their previous competitive events.

The official Fortnite stream usually begins around 1 pm PT / 4 pm ET, but with no official announcement from Epic, this is an assumption.

We can expect to hear an official start time after Monday, July 8, when Epic returns from vacation.

Participants

There have been a handful of Trios who have already committed to teaming up for the event.

Some of the most notable personalities and esports athletes are Turner ‘Tfue’ Tenney, Tom ’72hrs’ Mulligan, Dennis ‘Cloak’ Lepore, and Nick ‘Nickmercs’ Kolcheff.

Here is a list of the confirmed list of professional Trios for the tournament:

  • Tfue, Cloak, 72hrs
  • Nickmercs, SypherPK, Nio
  • Mongraal, Benjyfishy, MrSavageM
  • Aspect, Animal, Bugha
  • Stompy, Aqua, Tschinken
  • Dubs, Clix, Megga
  • Bizzle, Zayt, Saf
  • Skram, Smeef, Mexe

Unfortunately for Trios who are looking to warm-up, Epic’s Matt ‘Loomin’ Layman confirmed that there will not be an Arena mode for Trios.

Fortnite’s main two modes for competition have been solo and duo. Squads was too hectic to follow for spectators and the amount of building on the server would cause intense lag.

It should be interesting to see how Trio competitive Fortnite plays out since professionals are very build-heavy in tournaments.

Fortnite’s servers previously could not handle squad competitive play, but it seems Epic has been hard at work behind the scenes to stabilize and secure the game’s servers.
